"Gender Montage"

Due to a classroom conflict, the second evening of Gender Montage had to be rescheduled. The new date is Thursday, March 23 at 7pm. In honor of 2006 International Womena's Day (March 8), CREEES will present a series of documentary films entitled "Gender Montage: Paradigms in Post-Soviet Space." The documentaries were created as a result of the three-year project "Mass Media Gender Policy," through the Network Women's Program of The Open Society Institute - Russia and The Gend

Thursday, March 23, 7pm Live Containers - Tajikistan 2002 - describes the plight of women who have become "live containers," smugglers of heroine.

Red Butterflies Where Two Springs Merge - Kyrgyzstan 2002 - this film examines the life of a traditional felt-carpet maker who has become the director of her own workshop.

Hack Workers - Uzbekistan 2002 - examines the lives of Uzbek women, abandoned by their husbands and working as "hack workers," unprotected by the law.

Power: Feminine Gender - Ukraine 2003 - explores the idea that matriarchy is the natural form of social organization in the Ukraine.

Tomorrow Will Be Better? - Lithuania 2003 - follows the lives of four women from different sectors of society who have adapted to new conditions since transition.
