Letisha Brown is a PhD. student in the Department of Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin. Her main research interest is the study of the body in terms of race, gender, sexuality, health and sport. Her master’s thesis “Sex, Drugs and Barbie: Gender Verification, Drug Testing and the Commodification of the Black Female Athlete” was completed in to 2012. A chapter of her thesis “The Spectacle of Blackness: Race, Representation and the Black Body” was awarded the Barbara Brown Outstanding Student Paper Award during the 2011 North American Society for the Sociology of sport Conference. She is currently working on research related to stress and eating.
