Giulianna Zambrano's Thesis Published in FLACSO-Ecuador

Posted: January 17, 2012

Resignificación de la justicia social en el Valle del Chota, recently published by FLACSO-Ecuador and Abya Yala, started as a thesis project for Giulianna Zambrano's Masters in Political Science. It was written under the supervision of Professor Carlos de la Torre.
By using historical documents and life testimonies, the author rescues the trajectory of peasants' struggles in El Chota's Valley while at the same time addressing the transformation of collective action for land and water into a struggle for cultural rights. Inspired by important debates on political philosophy, the author intends to complement current studies of redistribution demands with her own analysis of cultural recognition by proposing a critical approach to collective action, social movements, race and ethnicity with regards to Afro-descendants in the Ecuadorian highlands.
