Biography and Research Interests

I have been at UT since 2008, and my research and teaching is focused on African and Global cultural histories. My thematic focus includes: historical memory; women's and gender history; and imperialism. All these themes are manifest in my recent book, Imagining a Nation: History and Memory in Making Zimbabwe (University of Virginia, 2015). I am currently writing a second monograph on transnational migration, as well as working with graduate students researching and writing on individual, social, and collective memory in varied disciplines. I welcome graduate students interested in pursuing studies in any of my fields of expertise and interest.

 Courses Taught Regularly Taught Include:

African History; Women’s History; International Development, Human Rights; History and Memory.
