Littlefield Lectures

A biennial event supported by an endowment from UT benefactor Major George Littlefield, the Littlefield Lectures bring distinguished scholars of Southern history to campus for a series of public talks on consecutive days. This year's speaker is Edward L. Ayers, Dean of the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Hugh Kelly Professor of History at the University of Virginia.

He is the author of nine books, including The Promise of the New South: Life After Reconstruction (1992), a finalist for the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize, and In the Presence of Mine Enemies, War in the Heart of America, 1859-1863, awarded the 2004 Bancroft Prize for the most distinguished book in American history.
