Dehradun, India — Located just south of the Himalayas,Dehradun is the capital city of Uttarakhand state and one of the most lively and highly educated cities in the region. While there are many nearby tourist attractions and popular pilgrimage destinations, Dehradun remains relatively free of bustling tourists; instead, it boasts numerous research institutions and has a developing urban center. Many young, upwardly mobile Indians make Dehradun their home as the standards of living there are high.
Dehradun is nestled within the vast Indo-Gangetic plain, which runs from Pakistan in the west to Bangladesh in the east. This region is bordered in the north by the Himalayas. This mountain range, often called the “roof of the world,” is the source of both the Ganges and Yumana rivers, which are two of the most important rivers in the Indian subcontinent. Without a doubt, there are a myriad of opportunities in this region to actively engage with the people and natural environment of India.
