Noted Cuban-U.S. journalist, novelist, translator, and LGBT activist Achy Obejas was born in Havana and spends considerable time on the island.  She is the author of the award-winning novel Days of Awe and the collection of poetry This is What Happened in Our Other Life. She is a prolific translator and produced the Spanish version of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz.  She is currently Writer in Residence at Mills College in Oakland, California.
