Workshop: At the Crossroads: Integrating the Balkans into the European Union (November 16)
Tuesday, November 16, 2010
9:00 AM - 4:00 AM
On the UT campus
Several Balkan States are eligible to become members of the European Union, but thus far Slovenia, Bulgaria and Romania are the only post-Communist Balkan countries to have achieved member status. What challenges do the other ex-Yugoslav countries still face, and what advantages would they see as EU members? Who is moving towards economic stabilization and regional cooperation, and who is struggling with reconstruction and their war-torn past?
CREEES and the Center for European Studies are offering a one-day workshop for Secondary School educators. At this workshop, UT professors will discuss the history of the European Union and the current progress of several countries towards integration, and then explore ways to incorporate the ideas into curriculum materials for their own classroom use.
The workshop will be held on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. Registration is free and includes handouts, parking, lunch, and snacks. Registration is limited to 25 teachers on a first-com, first-served basis.
This workshop is now full. To be added to the waiting list, please contact: Allegra Azulay, CREEES Outreach Coordinator, at 512-471-7782 or firstname.lastname@example.org
