Acton Foundation for Entrepreneurial Excellence

Spring 2011 Site Review

Position: Content & Project Development Intern
Student: Psychology Senior

The Acton Foundation for Entrepreneurial Excellence is an amazing but demanding workplace where you will be surrounded by hardworking individuals that force you to rise to their level and reach your maximum potential.  As a Content Writer and Project Development Intern, my role and responsibilities were very similar to those of the long-term employees working within the office.

My typical work day started by 9AM along with everyone else and often went to 5 or 6PM depending on what projects were being launched.  As a project developer, I was heavily involved in team based projects and found that most short check-in style meetings took place in the morning while longer project detail meetings took place in the afternoons and tended towards the beginning of the week.  My responsibilities while writing content required a significant amount of individual initiative and meant that many of my mornings were dedicated to writing, revising, and editing while my creative energy was at its highest.  In the afternoon I often worked with member services assisting customers and this was conducted primarily via email and occasionally via telephone.  The customers I assisted were using the My Entrepreneurial Journey online learning platform, so many of the cases that came in were regarding technical issues which required me to act as an intermediary between the customer and the technical team.  This was challenging but definitely increased my knowledge of technical computer terms and helped me to better understand the delicate interplay between different roles within an online company.

Overall, the Acton environment is fast-paced and challenging.  I can honestly say there was never a day when I was bored because they always kept me on my toes learning new tools and systems.
