BTT Gateway

Beyond The Tower (BTT) Gateway is our on-line recruiting system designed to take liberal arts students Beyond the Tower™. Students must have a BTT Gateway account to receive LACS services. BTT Gateway provides full access to a variety of career management needs, including:

  • Job and internship search
  • On-campus interview sign-up
  • Document management - resume, cover letter and writing samples
  • Resume referrals, become searchable by employers (opt-in basis)

Why register? 

Register with LACS to gain access to our career coaches and law school & grad school admissions coaches, as well as our online services, including job and internship postings, on-campus interviewing, and employer resume referrals.

Who can register? 

You can register with LACS and open a BTT Gateway account if you are one of the following:

  1. a currently enrolled UT Austin Liberal Arts degree-seeking student;
  2. a UT Austin undergraduate Liberal Arts alumni within one year of graduation;
  3. a currently enrolled Liberal Arts UTeach student; or
  4. an international exchange student currently enrolled at UT Austin in a Liberal Arts major.

Currently enrolled non-Liberal Arts graduate students are eligible for non-academic career coaching through LACS and can register here. Alumni more than a year out and non-degree seeking students, including UT employees in the Staff Educational Benefit program, can take advantage of limited services, including use of the LACS Resource Library and attendance at career fairs and workshops. Individual staff appointments and use of recruiting services are not available. For information about other career resources on campus, please visit our alumni page.

How to Register

Step 1:  Thoroughly read and understand the Student Registration Agreement. The Registration Agreement details our policies and guidelines to which all students must adhere when participating in the career search and interviewing process.
Step 2: 
To sign up for services, create your profile by clicking “Create My BTT Gateway Account” at the bottom of the Registration Agreement.
Step 3: 
Within 2 business days of your registration, your account will be activated and you will receive a Welcome to BTT Gateway email. As a registrant with BTT Gateway, you can:

  • Search for jobs and internships
  • Apply for on-campus interviewing opportunities
  • Participate in the employer resume referral program
  • Upload and manage your career-search related documents (resume, cover letter, etc)

Email Announcements

Our email announcements include invitations to on-campus workshops and events as well as our weekly digest of upcoming deadlines. You can subscribe or unsubscribe to these emails using these steps:

  1. Access your account.
  2. Click the My Account > My Profile tab on the top navigation bar.
  3. Under Miscellaneous Information, select [Yes] or [No] to the 'Receive Recruiting Notice email from LACS" option.

BTT Gateway Tips

  • Update your account and documents every semester to reflect your academic and experiential development.
  • Ensure that your information is accurate and honest.
  • Ensure that you are familiar with the system before you begin your on-campus interview application period.
  • Select “Allow Employer Viewing” on your profile, enabling employers to search for your resume and parts of your profile.
  • Explore the “External Links” tab for access to powerful research tools.
  • Upload your resume at least two business days in advance of an application deadline.
  • Speak to a LACS Career Advisor for help in navigating the on-line system.
  • Check BTT Gateway regularly for new opportunities!

Application Guide

How to Apply for a Job/Internship

  1. Complete your on-line profile.
  2. Upload your resume (please allow 2 business days for approval of the first uploaded resume) and other required documents when requested.
  3. Click on 'Jobs'.
  4. Click on the 'Job ID' of interest to you, you will only have access to those for which you qualify.
  5. Click 'Submit Resume'.
  6. Select the appropriate resume and other documents when appropriate (many employers request only a resume). Please remember - you must turn off your pop-up window blocker in order to select your resume for application. If the employer requires more than one document (ex: resume and cover letter), you must submit both at the same time.

How to Check your Job/Internship Application Status

  1. From your home page, visit My Account > My Activity > Referrals.
  2. If you successfully submitted your documents for a job, the Status will say “Application Submitted, Pending.”

Job/Internship Application Next Steps

  1. The morning after the application deadline, all submitted documents are sent to the employer.
  2. The employer manages all further communication regarding interview selection status. Therefore, you will receive a status update only when the employer sends that info directly to you.

How to Apply for a Job/Internship Linked to an Interview Schedule

  1. Complete your on-line profile.
  2. Upload your resume (Please allow 2 business days for approval of the first uploaded resume) and other required documents requested for the job.
  3. Click on 'Interview Schedules'.
  4. Click on 'Qualified Schedules' to see the jobs for which you are qualified.
  5. Note: You may select ‘Future Schedules’ to see all upcoming interviews, but you may not qualify for all of the positions listed.
  6. Click on the 'Schedule ID' of interest to you.
  7. Click on 'Request Interview'
  8. Select the appropriate resume and other documents when appropriate (many employers request only a resume). Please remember - you must turn off your pop-up window blocker in order to select your resume for application. If the employer requires more than one document (ex: resume and cover letter), you must submit both at the same time.
  9. Click on the job description under 'Linked To Jobs' to read the description and qualifications for the position. Take note of additional application instructions, many employers require you to apply via their career website as well.
  10. You can check that you have applied for the position by reviewing your account activity. My Account > My Activity > Schedules.

How to Check your Interview Request Status

  1. My Account > My Activity > Schedules > Preselect
  2. If you have successfully requested an interview, you will see the position listed under ‘Preselect.’

Interview Request Next Steps

  1. After the job application deadline, employers will review all submitted documents.
  2. If you are selected for an interview
  3. You will receive an email from BTT Gateway indicating you have been selected.
  4. To sign up for an interview time slot, log on to your BTT Gateway account and visit My Account > My Activity > Preselect.
  5. Select the Schedule ID of the position you wish to view.
  6. Select ‘Sign Up’ to view the available time slots.
  7. Select ‘Sign-Up’ next to the time slot that you prefer for your interview.
  8. Take note of the time and date of your interview.
  9. Interviews scheduled through BTT Gateway will take place either in the Liberal Arts Career Services office, FAC 18, or in the Texas Recruitment + Interview Services (TRIS) center, SSB 4.102.
  10. If you do not wish to interview with a company, select ‘Decline Interview’.
  11. If you are not selected for an interview
  12. The employer has the option of sending an email from BTT Gateway informing you that you have not been selected to interview.Please note that not all employers use this function.

Reasons why you May Not be Able to View a Job, Internship, or Interview Schedule

  • Employers have the option of screening four categories: GPA, Work Authorization, Graduation Date and Major.
  • If an employer has selected to screen any of the above categories, and you do not fit their screening criteria, you will not be able to view the job, internship, or interview schedule.
  • Please note that your BTT Gateway account is not linked to your information on file with the university. If your major, graduation date, or GPA has changed since you set up your BTT Gateway account, please update your BTT Gateway profile to reflect those changes.
  • Click the My Account tab > My Profile and select the appropriate fields to update.
