Professor of Educational Psychology
Toni Falbo

Over many years, Toni Falbo has become the leading expert on only children: that is, people who grow up without siblings. She has conducted research with U.S. college students, comparing only children to their peers with siblings. She has also collected data in China, primarily from schoolchildren, in a continuing effort to understand the effects of the one-child policy on social and psychological outcomes. Falbo expects to continue her involvement in research on small families, since many countries throughout the world are experiencing low fertility. Falbo has also conducted research on other topics, including the accuracy of self-knowledge, Latino high school graduation, ethnic identity and education, and strategies people use to influence each other.
