"My research interests focus on the social and cultural history of premodern India (1000-1800), and especially on the various interactions between the Islamic and Indian civilizations. I have published monographs on the social roles of Muslim mystics (Sufis) in the premodern period, as well as on the growth of Islam in Bengal. I am also actively teaching and writing about the growing subfield of world history."
