Looking ahead to next year's reading series: Michener residency author Colm Toibin in September, and a poetry triple-header in early December by visiting prof Naomi Shihab Nye and MCW alums Michael McGriff and Carrie Fountain, who are teaching for MCW and English respectively. In spring, residency author D.A. Powell in February, Zadie Smith in March, and visiting prof Denis Johnson in April. W.S. Livingston Chair in Poetry of the MCW & UT Dept of English Dean Young has been named 2014 Texas Poet Laureate. • James Magnuson has sold his latest novel, FAMOUS WRITERS I HAVE KNOWN, to W.W. Norton, with a January 2014 publication date planned. See recent NY Times Arts Beat blog post about the novel's origins and inspirations---hint, it's set in an MFA program.
