Richard "Racehorse" Haynes to Speak at Board of Advocates Award Ceremony

Richard "Racehorse" Haynes will receive this year's Honorary Order of Barristers Award presented at the annual Board of Advocates Awards Ceremony. Racehorse Haynes is recognized as one of the top criminal defense lawyers in the nation. The International Society of Barristers, the American Bar Association, the Texas Bar Association, and the American Judicature Society are among the many legal organizations to which Mr. Haynes belongs. He is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including the Outstanding Alumni and Law Alumni awards from the University of Houston and the prestigious Golden Plate Award from the American Academy of Achievement. He is a member of the Permanent Teaching Faculty of the National College for Criminal Defense and serves on the Board of Directors of several community organizations. In September of 1996, Mr. Haynes was inducted as a fellow into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers.

Other speakers at the ceremony will include David Berg of Berg & Androphy, author of The Trial Lawyer: What it Takes to Win. David Berg's practice areas include commercial litigation, white collar defense, civil litigation and plaintiff's personal injury, and Qui Tam litigation. Mr. Berg will present Mr. Haynes with the Honorary Barrister Award. Bill Whitehurst of Whitehurst, Harkness, Ozmun & Brees, will present the Justice Mack Kidd Outstanding Senior Appellate Advocacy Award, given each year to a graduating law student. Mr. Whitehurst is a former president of the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. His practice areas include medical malpractice, product liability, drug and medical device litigation, and auto accidents.

The 2005 Board of Advocates Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2005, at the University of Texas Alumni Center (Connally Ballroom). Individual tickets (non-student) are $50.
