AJCL Book Drive The American Journal of Criminal Law will be collecting books to donate to the Inside Books Project from Monday, November 19 through Wednesday, November 21. There will be a bin in the Atrium where books can be placed for donation.
The Inside Books Project is based in central Austin and is an all volunteer, non-profit organization sending free books and educational materials to people in prison in the state of Texas. Inside Books works to promote reading, literacy and education among incarcerated individuals and to educate the general public on issues of incarceration. Human Rights Law Society is putting on, for the general body, their second educational event on the basics of Human Rights Law.
Daniel M. Brinks, Associate Professor at UT and Co-Director of the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice, will be narrowing in on a category of Human Rights, talking specifically about Economic, Social, and Cultural rights.
Professor Brinks' research focuses on the role of the law and courts in supporting or extending human rights and many of the basic rights associated with democracy, with a primary regional interest in Latin America. Professor Brinks was born and raised in Argentina and practiced law in the U.S. for nearly ten years before turning to academia. He holds a PhD from the University of Notre Dame and a JD from the University of Michigan.
