    The Law, Business and Economics Workshop

    The Law, Business, and Economics Workshop Series serves as an important focal point at the University of Texas for research on the economic analysis of law and business. The workshop generally involves presentations by guests from outside the University community. Students can take the workshop as a course, which focuses on their presentation of written critiques of each of the papers presented in the workshop series.

    TJGOEL Roundtable with Jay Kelly

    We are pleased to announce that Jay Kelley, one of TJOGEL's Board of Advisors, will be speaking at a roundtable luncheon, "Hiring Partner: Secrets Revealed," on March 18th at noon. Mr. Kelley, a former hiring partner at Vinson & Elkins in Houston, will be discussing how hiring decisions are made and what firms actually expect of their summer associates. This roundtable will be particularly beneficial to anyone clerking at a law firm this summer.

    3Ls and LLMs are invited to get a jump on studying for the bar with these skills based sessions. Learn how to effectively write bar exam essay answers. TX bar questions will be used as examples. Sessions take place on Tuesdays at noon in TNH 2.140 and repeat Friday at 10:30 in TNH 3.124.

    Polygraphs & Investigations: Live Demo

    Join the Texas Federalist Society in hearing from Brian Morris. Mr. Morris is a JD/MBA, as well as a nationally-licensed polygraph examiner. He will discuss the investigative benefits of polygraphs in criminal law. Following his discussion, Mr. Morris will conduct a live demonstration of a polygraph exam.

    Patton Boggs Fellowship Deadline

    The Patton Boggs Foundation is pleased to contribute a fellowship worth $5,000 to support a UT Law student who has completed either his/her first or second year of law school and will be working on public policy and related matters for a government agency, international organization or nonprofit public interest organization. A preference will be given to veterans of the Iraqi and Afghanistan wars and students pursuing public service opportunities with organizations focused on business-related public policy issues, including economic development, banking, finance, community development, property and tax.

    To apply for the fellowship, please submit the following materials to the Mandi Villarreal in the Career Services Office (TNH 3.130) either in person or by email to cso@law.utexas.edu:

    Resume;

    Statement of interest—two to three double-spaced pages describing the organization you will work for, the type of work you anticipate you will be doing, why you are interested in the position and your long-term career goals. Also include the information on the length of your internship and whether you are receiving any pay or funding;

    List of three references; and

    Supporting statement from your sponsoring organization—confirming your offer, identifying your supervising attorney, and indicating the type of legal work you will do during your internship.

    Applications should be submitted by noon on Thursday, March 20, 2014.
