This Thursday, UT Law Alum Clark Neily from the Institute for Justice will discuss the Second Amendment and gun regulation with Professor Sanford Levinson. Clark Neily represented the plaintiffs in District of Columbia v. Heller, where the Supreme Court announced that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to own a gun for self-defense. As a senior attorney for the Institute for Justice, his practice focuses on occupational regulation and economic liberty. He has recently published a new book: Terms of Engagement: How Our Courts Should Enforce the Constitution’s Promise of Limited Government. Professor Levinson, who holds the W. St. John Garwood and W. St. John Garwood, Jr. Centennial Chair in Law, joined The University of Texas Law School in 1980. His article, "The Embarrassing Second Amendment," has been cited by the Supreme Court.
