Professor Linda Mullenix analyzes cases for Preview of United States Supreme Court Cases

Professor Linda S. Mullenix of the University of Texas School of Law has written articles in the Preview of United States Supreme Court Cases on four cases argued before the Court in January.

In the January 10, 2011, issue of Preview, Mullenix analyzes two cases dealing with personal jurisdiction, J. McIntyre Machinery, Ltd. v. Nicastro and Goodyear Luxembourg Tires, S.A. v. Brown; one case dealing with enjoining duplicative class action litigation, Smith v. Bayer Corp.; and one case dealing with federal private rights of action, Astra USA, Inc. v. The important class action case Smith v. Bayer was argued January 18, 2011; the Astra case on private rights of action was argued January 19, 2011; and the Luxembourg and McIntyre jurisdiction cases were argued on January 11, 2011.

Mullenix is a long-standing contributing editor and writer for Preview of United States Supreme Court Cases, which is published by the American Bar Association Division for Public Education. She is also a regular columnist for the National Law Journal, writing on complex litigation.

Mullenix holds the Morris and Rita Atlas Chair in Advocacy at the Law School. She teaches federal civil procedure, mass tort litigation, and current issues in class action litigation. Mullenix has been teaching since 1974 and is the author or co-author of ten books and numerous law review articles, including Leading Cases in Civil Procedure (West 2010) and Mass Tort Litigation (West 2d ed. 2008).  She has been a visiting professor at Harvard Law School and the University of Michigan School of Law.

She is a member of the American Law Institute and a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.  Mullenix was a Supreme Court Fellow at the Federal Judicial Center from 1989 to 1990. In 2002, she was a scholar in residence at the Rockefeller Foundation Study and Conference Center in Bellagio, Italy. Last year, Mullenix was elected to the newly-created board of directors of the Austin Chapter of the Fulbright Association.
